The NFC Wild Card game between the Lions and Cowboys featured one of the most infamous non-calls in football history, and Detroit is not happy about it.

Ed Hochuli, where are you when we need you the most? The NFL’s most well known and thorough official may get hated on from time to time, but Pete Morelli has made us all miss him more than ever. That’s mainly because no explanation of a controversial non-call in the Cowboys-Lions NFC Wild Card game was given after a flag was picked up late in the game.

The controversy occurred when Anthony Hitchens seemed to commit a textbook pass interference penalty on Brandon Pettigrew. A flag was thrown and pass interference was called, however after gathering together, the officials  decided that what had occurred was face guarding and there was no foul committed.

This erased what would have been an automatic first down for the Lions and ended a drive that might have ended in points they needed to win the game.

Needless to say, the Detroit Lions official Twitter account formally protested the non-call by throwing their support behind former head of officiating Mike Pereira.

This isn’t all that surprising, as the penalty stopped the Lions drive and ended up possibly taking points off the board. Detroit would have needed a touchdown on that drive to have won the game, but we will never know how the game would have ended up if the call had gone the Lions way.

Instead, this is just another scab to add to all the others that Lions fans will pick as they wonder why the football gods hate them so much.
