According to reports, the Miami Heat are interested in Nets center Brook Lopez.

As teams all around the NBA are improving themselves, the struggling Miami Heat are looking to do the same as Ohm Youngmusik of ESPN New York reports the Heat have a “strong interest” in Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez.

While the Heat’s intentions of improving the team are well, this move doesn’t look good on paper or in reality.

What Brook Lopez brings to a team when on the floor is offense, offense and more offense. While the Heat are struggling on that side of the floor (Miami is a league-average offense this season) in comparison to last season, Lopez isn’t the fix they need. With an improved point guard, added shooters, and a healthy Josh McRoberts, a player who was expected to play a big role for this team before going down for the season, this Heat team looks much better on the offensive end of the floor.

The most important factor of them all? There may not be a more expensive player not named Derrick Rose, who misses more time with injury than Brook Lopez. In 2011-12, Lopez played five total games because of foot injury. He would bounce back the next season, but the injury bug would force him to play less than 20 games in 2013-14. That’s definitely not what the Heat need, especially since he’s owed $15 million this season and $16 million the next (w/ a player option).

While he’s not guaranteed to keep up his play of late, Hassan Whiteside is the better fit with the Heat than Lopez. In the few games he’s participated in this season, he’s been a complete deterrent at the rim, the player needed alongside Chris Bosh, and is a hound on the defensive glass. At his current salary, the Heat would be able to retain a solid center in the future while addressing several

The Heat don’t have much to offer, but if the Nets can get Pat Riley and company to bite on a deal that sends the 7-footer to South Beach, they’d be well off for the season and immediate future.
