The Cleveland Cavaliers outpace the Los Angeles Clippers despite Chris Paul’s protests

The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to continue their west coast success with a 126-121 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers last night, pushing their record above .500 to 21-20. The win puts Cleveland within a half game of the mighty Milwaukee Bucks. With things turning around in Cleveland, perhaps David Griffin can now get enough REM sleep.

The Cavs were aided in part by 37 points from Kyrie Irving, as well as 32 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists from LeBron James. The highlight of LeBron’s conquest was a driving bank shot above the outstretched arm of Spencer Hawes, all while being fouled by Matt Barnes.

LeBron reveled in his own glory with a bouncy strut.

Is that some sass from Chris Paul? The Clippers point guard flippantly waved off the play like a bear after a beehive.

But nobody truly knows what Chris Paul is thinking. He’s barely looking at LeBron; it could be anything. Maybe LeBron smells vaguely like limburger cheese. Maybe Chris Paul was fighting off the invisible ghouls that haunt him during the Conference semis. Maybe he’s reassuring himself that he locked the Alfa Romeo. Maybe he is actually a bear. We cannot pretend to understand what goes on within the labyrinth of Chris Paul’s mind.

Somehow, both the Clippers and the Cavaliers are sitting at sixth in their respective conferences. The low standard for failure in the East has salvaged what has so far been a disappointing season for the Cavaliers, allowing them to fall upward into the standings. Of course a win like this probably signals that everyone is all wrong and the Cavaliers simply needed time to gel, and now their going to annihilate the East.
