Jason Witten hopes DeMarco Murray considers him in free agency

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten hopes running back DeMarco Murray considers him when making a decision in free agency.
Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray appears to be headed towards free agency this season after a monstrous season where he led the league in rushing. The Cowboys are faced with a predicament as they try to keep both Murray and wide receiver Dez Bryant with the team going forward.
That could mean Murray has to take a smaller contract to stay with the Cowboys than he could get else where, and before leaving Jason Witten hopes he’ll consider guys like him.
“You want to see him maximize that but there’s no question that I hope he’s thinking about guys like me when he’s going through that decision,” Witten said, via ESPN’s Todd Archer.
When the Cowboys are deciding, Bryant is given preference over Murray if you had to keep one for several reasons. Bryant is a very unique talent and there aren’t many players like him, and running backs are devalued league wide.
Possibly more so given the offensive line Murray had blocking for him.
“I think it would be silly to not give him the credit for what he did. It’s not easy to do that and I think Coach Garrett said it a few weeks back that he created a mindset for our team and that’s not easy to do,” Witten. “He deserves a lot of that credit, DeMarco does, and so that’s why you want a guy like that back because he stands for everything you want in your football team.”
