The “NO MORE” campaign against domestic violence is airing its first Super Bowl commercial on Sunday and it is a powerful, powerful message.

The NFL became a very visible supporter of the NO MORE campaign against domestic violence in the wake of the high-profile Ray Rice fiasco last fall.

The group, launched in 2013 by a coalition of leading corporations, advocacy and service organizations, according to its website,  will air a 30-second ad during the first quarter of Sunday’s Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

Statistics regarding domestic violence from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence are jaw-dropping:

  • On average, nearly 20 people per minute in the U.S. are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.
  • Yes, men can be domestic violence victims.
  • One in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
  • One in five women and one in seven men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
  • One in seven women and one in 18 men have experienced stalking victimization during their lifetime, during which they felt very fearful or believed that they or someone close to them would be harmed or killed.
  • On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.
  • In domestic violence homicides, women are six times more likely to be killed when there is a gun in the house.
  • Intimate partner violence accounts for 15 percent of all violent crime.
  • Intimate partner violence is most common among women between 18 and 24.
