Pete Carroll would support Richard Sherman missing Super Bowl XLIX
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he will support Richard Sherman if he chooses to miss Super Bowl XLIX.
For those of you that don’t know what is going on with Richard Sherman right now, I’m sure you’re wondering why Sherman would ever miss playing in the Super Bowl. Well, Richard Sherman and his girlfriend are expecting a baby, and his girlfriend is set to go into labor any day now.
Not the greatest timing, as Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks are getting ready to play the New England Patriots this Sunday in Super Bowl XLIX for a chance to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.
Sherman doesn’t the baby to come on Super Bowl Sunday, saying that his child will be a “disciplined young man” and wait for his daddy to play in the Super Bowl before being born. If his son is not disciplined though and his girlfriend goes into labor on Sunday, Sherman will be faced with an almost impossible decision to make.

Play in the Super Bowl anyway while your girlfriend is in labor and miss the birth of your son, or go be with your family and miss the biggest game of your career to be there for the birth of your son. That’s as close as an impossible decision that there ever could be.
It’s all hypothetical right now, and hopefully Sherman won’t have to make that decision. However, if the situation does happen that he has to make a decision, his head coach Pete Carroll says he will support whatever decision Sherman makes.
"Whenever our players have a personal or family issue that comes up, it’s always about family first and they have to decide what’s best for them, and I support that."
Carroll also added that he can’t wait to meet “Little Petey.”
I get it now. Carroll and Sherman made a deal. Pete Carroll is okay with Sherman missing the Super Bowl only if Sherman names his son after his head coach. I think that’s fair.
Hopefully Sherman won’t have to make the decision of playing to be a back-to-back Super Bowl champion or witnessing the birth of his first son. Although, I think the kid will be okay either way. When he’s older, his dad will tell him the story of how he missed playing in the Super Bowl to be there when he was born, or the story of how he wasn’t able to see him being born because he was playing in the Super Bowl. I think the kid will understand.
If Sherman’s girlfriend is able to hold on until after Sunday, that will give Sherman the opportunity to win a Super Bowl championship and have a son be born in the same week. That’s not a bad week.
