The Boston Celtics are reportedly beginning to emerge as potential suitors for Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic if they choose to deal him ahead of Thursday afternoon’s trade deadline.

Trade rumors have been buzzing all week-long with tomorrow’s NBA trade deadline coming up quickly, and Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic has been one of the hottest names talked about.

It appears that the Suns are going to deal Dragic before the deadline if they get a fair offer, but he has the ability to dictate where he wants to go because he has the option to be a free agent at the end of the season.

No team is going to give up the type of value that it would take to acquire Dragic unless he gives them an idea of whether or not he would re-sign.

That being said, the Boston Celtics are emerging as a team that could potentially acquire Dragic.

Boston is a very intriguing destination for Dragic, and the Celtics are coming out of nowhere. They are in the middle of a rebuilding stage and acquiring a 28-year-old point guard doesn’t necessarily fit that bill. Rajon Rondo was traded earlier this season, and acquiring Dragic seems like a strange move.

That being said, there is no doubt that he would fit well in Brad Stevens’ system. He is a capable playmaker and is a deadly scorer.

This season, Dragic has averaged 16.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. He has shot a staggering 50.1 percent from the field overall and 35.5 percent from behind the three-point arc. Those numbers show how potent he can be on the offensive side of the basketball, and why there is so much interest in him.

Dragic does have the ability to opt out of his current contract following this season, and he has made it clear to the Suns that he won’t re-sign with them. He has listed the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, and Miami Heat as the four teams that he would like to be traded to.

It is going to be a very intriguing situation to keep an eye on, but the Suns have a big decision to make. Do they hang onto him for the remainder of this season and then lose him for nothing? Do they trade him now and risk missing the playoffs once again?

Phoenix will have to make that decision in the next 24 hours, and you can expect to see Dragic’s name come up quite a bit in trade talks. Don’t be surprised to see him in a different uniform after all the trade dust settles tomorrow at the deadline.
