The Atlanta Hawks’ bidding war has come to an end, and it looks like they are going to sell for less than half of what the Los Angeles Clippers sold for this summer.

The Atlanta Hawks have the most wins of any team this year, and that has probably been a great distraction to the fact that they are in the process of getting sold.

More from Atlanta Hawks

Bruce Levenson, the controlling owner of the Hawks, put the team up for sale in September just a month after the Los Angeles Clippers sold for a whopping $2 billion.

The most a team has ever sold for prior to the sale in Los Angeles was $550 million by both the Washington Wizards and the Milwaukee Bucks, so it looked like the market could be changed for any other team that decided to sell in the future.

Levenson was intrigued enough to sell the team, and the bidding war ended on Tuesday. There were some reports that the team was going to go for over $900 million, but Mike Ozanian of Forbes reports that the highest bid is actually $800 million.

Although the deadline for bids has already passed, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the $800 million bid will win the team. There might be a very rich group out there that hears how much the Hawks are about to sell for, and then they decide to come in and swoop the team up for a billion.

That exact scenario is really why information like this is leaked in the first place.

When Forbes valued all the NBA teams last month, the Hawks came in near the bottom at 22nd with a value of $825 million.

Regardless of how much the Hawks actually sell for, it’s clear that this team isn’t the Clippers and $2 billion is a number that we might not ever see again in the NBA.

Whoever wins the team will be a lucky person, though. After all, the Hawks might just be the best team in the league this year.
