Jarryd Hayne is looking into the prospects of switching from rugby to the NFL.

Each offseason, there always seems to be an athlete, athlete, that decides he wants to play football. The one guy who sticks out over the past few years is Jeff Demps.

A gifted Olympic sprinter, many thought Demps would succeed as a kick and punt returner because of his gifted speed.

However, he failed because of his lack of muscle.

This offseason, one player who wants to start playing football is rugby star Jarryd Hayne. Unlike Demps, Haynes could make an impact in other ways than a return man.

At 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, with sub 4.6 speed, Hayne is destined to play the running back position in the NFL.

The Australian native has received a ton of interest from multiple NFL teams. According to the Seattle Times, Hayne is exploring his interest and is carefully deciding where he will play next season. The three teams who stand out are the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Detroit Lions.

These three teams could very well be in the running back market this offseason.

If Marshawn Lynch decides to retire this offseason, head coach Pete Carroll is intrigued by Haynes.

"“I always thought it would be cool to recruit down there and all that because there’s some great players and it’s a great game,” said Carroll. “It’s a very physical, demanding game and those guys have all the same kind of stuff that we’re looking for in our guys.”"

With Frank Gore likely gone, the 49ers may want to bring in Hayne to make up a 1-2 punch with Carlos Hyde. The Lions are in a different position as they just released Reggie Bush. Joique Bell will likely take over the starting duties, but a versatile player like Haynes would fit well in Jim Caldwell’s offensive scheme.

Wherever he goes in 2015, it will be interesting to see how a rugby star will translate to the NFL. In terms of physicality, the NFL truly is a different game and while Hayne does have the body that is necessary for NFL success, he will have a challenge lying ahead of him. Regardless, you have to root for the 27-year-old who will be attempting american football for the first time in his life.
