Ndamukong Suh will be highly coveted on the free agent market and is already being recruited — in comedic fashion — by Colts punter Pat McAfee to come play for Indianapolis.

The Detroit Lions decided paying Ndamukong Suh $27 million on a franchise tag was too rich for them and didn’t tag the Pro Bowl defensive tackle, meaning he’ll be a free agent if they can’t agree to a long-term deal by next Tuesday.

They have already had so much time to get a deal done so I would think the chances of signing an extension in the next week would be unlikely.

Suh is poised to set the record for the biggest contract given to a defensive player and will have no shortage of suitors, including the Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars who have ample salary cap space to throw piles of cash his way.

They won’t be the only suitors for the three-time All-Pro, however, and if Indianapolis Colts punter, Pat McAfee has any say in the matter, he’d like to keep him in the midwest.

McAfee is one of the funnier guys in the NFL and showed off his All-Pro personality with his recruiting pitch to Suh on twitter on Monday after Suh wasn’t tagged by the Lions.

You have to applaud the effort. I’m sure Suh will get a chuckle out of it when he checks his mentions, but at the time of publishing hasn’t replied to McAfee, at least not via twitter.

As someone writing this post from the Chicagoland area, about three hours from Indy, I would love if that was the setting for this time of year after one of the coldest February’s in history, so I certainly appreciated the humor.

I’m sure Suh did as well after playing the last five years in picturesque Detroit.
