Rex Ryan is familiar with David Harris. Will the Buffalo Bills make an aggressive play for him?

A few years ago, the New York Jets had one of the best defenses in the NFL. Players like Darrelle Revis and Muhammed Wilkerson thrived under Rex Ryan’s scheme. However, Rex isn’t going after Revis, who is slated to be a free agent this offseason. Instead, he plans on going after linebacker David Harris and even though Harris’ play is diminishing as he is getting older at 31, Rex will reportedly be aggressive in his attempt at bringing in Harris.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Rex and the

Buffalo Bills

will make an aggressive attempt to lure away Harris.

In his eight years with the Jets, Harris has amounted 885 tackles, 30 sacks, and six interceptions. Harris is a versatile linebacker who shows the ability to play multiple positions in any defensive scheme. Despite his success with the Jets, the past three seasons have been his most intriguing. Even though the Jets haven’t been competitive over the past few years, besides an 8-8 season in 2013, Harris has been a defensive star for gang green. Since 2012, Harris has recorded 370 tackles and 10.5 sacks.

With the Bills trading away star linebacker Kiko Alonso, bringing in an impact linebacker like Harris makes a ton of sense. Alonso would’ve costed a ton of money if he were to sign a long-term deal, however, Harris won’t be that expensive and he could even take a discount to reunite with the coach he’s had a ton of success with in Ryan. If Harris does join the Bills, he will be coming to a team that led the league in sacks last season. Harris would have the best supporting cast in the league around him in Buffalo.
