Brawl erupts between Russian youth teams during the handshake line.

The postgame handshake line has been a tradition for ages, probably since sports were invented. It’s a way to remember as players that it’s just a game; a show of good sportsmanship, whatever might have happened during the game itself.

But sometimes, teams don’t feel like shaking hands. Sometimes they feel like fighting.

This video is actually about a month old, but has just now begun making the rounds in this part of the world.

According to Bleacher Report, the kids in the video are eight years old; and if it’s rare to see teams get into fights in the handshake line, it’s even more rare for teams of eight-year-olds to get into fights at all. I played sports as an eight-year-old, and there’s little or no aggression involved; you’re too busy trying to figure out how to play the sport, because you’re eight.

But these eight-year-olds had a score to settle. It’s hard to say what might have happened during the game to set them at each others’ throats. One thing worth pointing out is that the referees make little or no effort to stop the brawl; they must have wanted to see what was going to happen.

Some teeth may have gotten knocked out, but the kids are so young they were probably baby teeth, and hey, those are coming out anyway. Might as well get it over with.
