The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to make a couple splashes this offseason, and are making a push to sign Dallas Cowboys impending free agent running back DeMarco Murray.

DeMarco Murray is the best running back on the free agent market, and is one of the top players overall this offseason that is available. The Dallas Cowboys are still hoping to bring him back, but they are going to face stiff competition from other teams searching for a running back.

One team to keep an eye on is the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are making a push to sign Murray.

It would certainly be the type of big move that the Jaguars have been needing. Murray would immediately be the workhorse for the Jacksonville offense, and would help second-year quarterback Blake Bortles out in a big way.

During the 2014 season with the Cowboys, Murray ran for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns on 392 carries. He was good for 4.7 yards per carry, and it was one of the best performances from a running back in recent NFL history. There is no doubt that Murray put up a great season, but he was able to run behind the Cowboys’ dominant offensive line.

Jacksonville is coming off of yet another disappointing season, finishing the year at 3-13. They were ranked 21st in the NFL as far as rushing yards per game were concerned, averaging 102.1 per game. It isn’t a terrible number, but adding Murray would make their offense twice as dangerous as it was last season.

Murray is just 27-year-old, which makes him a valuable option for the foreseeable future. He has dealt with a good amount of injury issues throughout his career, but last season he was mostly healthy. There was a broken bone in his hand at the end of the year, but he was able to play through it and keep playing at a high level.

It is going to be very intriguing to see what teams end up showing interest in Murray over the next few days. The Indianapolis Colts are another team that has been mentioned in quite a few rumors over the past couple weeks.

Needless to say, this is exactly the type of big name signing that the Jaguars need to find a way to make happen. It would completely change their outlook for the future, and would help take them back into relevance quickly.

Don’t be surprised to hear more rumors about the Jaguars pursuing Murray as free agency’s beginning draws nearer.
