Michael Crabtree not expected to re-sign with 49ers
By Mike Dyce
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree isn’t expected to re-sign.
It looks like the San Francisco 49ers found another player to catch passes from quarterback Colin Kaepernick in former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith. It is the second time since they lost Super Bowl XLVII to the Ravens that they’ve turned to Baltimore for their wide receiver needs, signing Anquan Boldin after the loss.
As for wide receiver Michael Crabtree, he appears to be headed out of town.
From CSN Bay Area:
"Crabtree is not expected to re-sign with the 49ers, according to a source close to him. Cornerback Perrish Cox, also a scheduled free agent, told 95.7 The Game suggested Crabtree wants to go to a team that places more of an emphasis on the passing game."
Hard to not blame Crabtree, especially considering the rocky season Kaepernick had in 2014. Maybe he is just tired of having to deal with the constantly talking trash Richard Sherman.
Of course playing in a division that is host to not only Sherman, but Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson can’t be fun. Finding somewhere else to catch balls and not play four games every season against two of the best cornerbacks in the game has to be appealing.
It will be interesting to see what teams express an interest in Crabtree, a player who has battled with injuries and hasn’t really lived up to his full potential. Though he seems ready to break out if he can stay healthy.
