New York City FC goalkeeper hits head on post (Video)
New York City FC goalkeeper Josh Saunders hit his head hard on the goal post.
New York City FC goalkeeper Josh Saunders hit his head extremely hard on the goal post when he made a jumping, diving save Sunday against Orlando City and he’s still playing.
How Saunders wouldn’t have a concussion after a hit this hard to the head is very questionable. Here’s what the side of Saunders’ head looked like after the hit courtesy of Mike Dyce.
Saunders likely should not be still in this game goalkeeping.
It all happened in the 14th minute of the MLS season opener for New York City FC against Orlando City SC when Saunders made an amazing save, but then was swept under by Orlando City defender Seb Hines.
The ball slid out of Saunders hands as he tended to his head wound and Hines scored a goal. But Hines was given a deserved penalty and the goal was rightfully negated.
Josh Saunders, 34, was signed by NYC FC in July of 2014 after he played four seasons with the Los Angeles Galaxy and one season with Real Salt Lake.
Hopefully Saunders is okay after he stayed in the game after some treatment to his head. But you can expect some questions about whether or not the keeper should still be playing to arise throughout the remainder of the match and after.
Saunders went on to continue making big saves for New York City FC.
