Tony Romo recently was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he talked about the departure of DeMarco Murray and what he thought of ‘the catch’ against the Packers.

Tony Romo recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about the Dallas Cowboys offseason so far, as well as some personal topics.

With the NFL free agent market opening on March 10, the Cowboys lost free agent running back and offensive player of the year DeMarco Murray to the rival Philadelphia Eagles. Director of player personnel Stephen Jones did not want to wrap up another big percentage of the team’s salary cap, which is already very offensive heavy, on another offensive player.

So, Jones stood firm on a $5 million per year offer, which could not compete with the $8 million per year offer Murray received from the Eagles.

Needless to say, Romo was very disappointed to see Murray leave.

Not only does Romo know what Murray meant for the team, but he was also very close friends with the star running back. To see him go to a division rival adds to the sting even more, but Romo understands the business side of things and sometimes tough decisions need to be made.

When asked about what he thought about DeMarco leaving on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Romo stated that he’s sad to see him go but is also happy for his former teammate. Romo even tells a story about how, after the Pro Bowl, he tried to lobby to an apparently somewhat lit Stephen Jones about keeping DeMarco Murray on the Cowboys. He stated that he (Stephen Jones) and head coach Jason Garrett have many more years to win a championship, but himself and owner Jerry Jones only have a few more years left.

Inadvertently, he was basically saying that Jerry is going to pass away soon.

As he states in the clip, he still believes that the Cowboys will be a good team next year as long as they come into the season with the right mentality.

Jimmy Kimmel also asks Tony his personal opinion on ‘the catch.’ The play he is referring to is the pass that he threw to wide receiver Dez Bryant who seemed to make the catch at the 1-yard line against the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs, but the play was reviewed and eventually overturned. There was a lot of controversy over the call, with the overall consensus being that the refs got it wrong.

Even though Romo had some fun with it, he also believes that it was ultimately a catch.

Romo certainly had some fun with the interview, but also said all the right things. We’ll see if it translates to another successful season for the Dallas Cowboys come the Fall.
