Jimmy Kimmel’s “lie witness news” skit asks fans about March Madness teams and players that don’t exist

More from March Madness

Every year, March Madness office pools across the country are won by people who know absolutely nothing about college basketball. They start out by asking their friends what a bracket is, fill one out, and suddenly they’ve won hundreds of dollars.

March Madness is as big an event as any other sport. And as with any big event, people want to act like they know what’s going on, even if they don’t.

Jimmy Kimmel tested this out, taking his very funny “lie witness news” segment to the streets of L.A. to ask college basketball “fans” about March Madness, asking them questions about teams and players that don’t exist. Watch the video below:

I don’t know about you guys, but I really do think Velveeta has a shot to win it all this year. And you know John Calipari would recruit an eight-year-old if he could.

I love the confidence of all these answers. These people have no idea what he’s talking about, but you wouldn’t know it from their rapid, confident answers. He asks them for specifics and they have them at the ready. It would be impressive if it wasn’t also kind of sad how quick everyone is to lie about it.

Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time to tune in to the game between Velveeta and Vanillanova. Sweet Sixteen indeed.
