The Washington Redskins have until May 3rd to decide whether or not to pick up Robert Griffin III’s option for 2016, which is worth a whopping $16M.

Robert Griffin III has had a less than stellar career in the NFL so far, but it’s not a career that will be ending anytime soon. While RGIII has been an utter disappointment in Washington, his career still has legs — even if he doesn’t.

But it’s his career in Washington that could be coming to an end in the near future as decisions need to be made about how long the Redskins want to keep Griffin around for and how much they want to pay to do so.

According to Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington.com, the Washington Redskins are not sold on Robert Griffin III and his 2016 option that is worth an insane $16 million is something that needs to be decided upon in a month’s time.

RGIII’s holier than thou attitude would be fine if he then backed it up by winning — because that’s how Kobe Bryant gets away with it…but he doesn’t

Here’s the thing with RGIII — he has potential but he doesn’t seem to have the drive to realize it. There is no doubting how God gifted he is, but it’s just a downer that a guy who is built to be a star is so reluctant to be one. He’s not a reluctant star in that he is quiet and reserved — he’s a superstar who doesn’t want to be one because he’s miffed about something.

RGIII was a major reason that Mike Shanahan was run out of town, it’s why Jon Gruden is on the hot seat entering Year 2 and he’s someone who has made the playoffs once and thinks he has weight to throw around.

It’s hard to like Robert Griffin III in the same way it’s hard to like Kevin Love. Both are God gifted men with talents that make them superstar caliber athletes. But both have egos that get in the way of their game, and both are hurting their own value by acting like douchebags most of the time.

Robert Griffin III is not a bad guy. He’s not the antichrist and he’s not a demon. He’s just a guy who thinks he’s better than you, and he lets you know it in a condescending way. RGIII’s holier than thou attitude would be fine if he then backed it up by winning — because that’s how Kobe Bryant gets away with it. But he doesn’t and instead backs it up with disappointment, which makes him an easy target to harp on and a guy that isn’t worth $16 million to keep around.
