Steve Spurrier joined Josh Kendall of The State for a workout before his 70th birthday on Monday.

The ‘ole ball coach, Steve Spurrier, is known for a lot of things–drawing up ball plays, his once famous phrase, “you can’t spell Citrus without UT” and a host of other things.

But now we also know that at 69 years and 363 days (as of today), Spurrier is a workout fiend. The head ball coach joined Josh Kendall, a USC beat reporter for The State–which is the local newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina–for a midday workout.

There’s so much amazingness happening in this video. Whether it’s the fact that Spurrier is outlifting and outworking–really in every way possible–a man who appears to be more than 20 years his junior, or the white bandanna he has tied around his forehead or the fact that at the end of the workout the two posed next to each other shirtless and Spurrier was as toned, if not more so than Kendall.

Kendall was understandably a bit embarrassed that the head ball coach showed him up.

Spurrier’s energy level certainly boasts well for the future of South Carolina football. After a disappointing season a year ago, Spurrier is looking to continue the upward trajectory he’s put the Gamecocks football program on in the last decade.

It’s going to take the kind of work he puts in in the weight room on the field, though, to keep the Gamecocks flying high in the SEC East.
