The former NBA star and current Chinese basketball star was honored with a series of postage stamps in China.

Stephon Marbury is known in the halls of NBA history as a player cut into the mold of the 2000’s NBA star; he was a low-efficiency, high-volume scorer who selfishly refused to pass, had an embattled relationship with his coach and had his own brand shoe line. In China, Marbury is known simply as a champion.

Having already been awarded with a statue outside of the stadium and a play about his life, the Beijing Ducks star was given a further honor when a series of postage stamps were produced in his honor.

From the New York Post:

"“I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that people will be able to buy a stamp of me to mail packages anywhere in the world,’’ said Marbury, who plans to give a speech at the National Museum of China in Beijing. “I am truly humbled. Never did I imagine in all of my 38 years of living that I — a kid who grew up 7,000 miles away from Beijing and a kid who came from the projects of Coney Island — would have a stamp of myself. I can never have dreamed it.”"

This may be hard to dream up if you are Marbury, but a Chinese basketball fan would have no problem seeing the American expatriate on their stamp. Marbury just won his third championship in four years with the Ducks, securing the Finals MVP award for the first time in his career. He has been the face of the Beijing Ducks during that time, building that squad into a powerhouse of Chinese basketball just a few short years after flaming out in the NBA.

That sparks a question: what would a stamp for Stephon Marbury look like from the state of New York? Maybe they would try to honor the immortal 2007-08 Knicks squad with a series of stamps that show Marbury bricking a jumper, Isiah Thomas exhaling air violently from his nostrils, James Dolan laughing maniacally and a brown paper bag.

Instead, Marbury is immortalized in China. It is a heartwarming story that can give Knicks fans heartburn.
