A Houston NFL Draft analyst thinks the Texans will draft Missouri Dorial Green-Beckham

Jayson Braddock, a Houston-based NFL Draft analyst tweeted recently that he believes the Houston Texans interest in Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham was in fact not a smokescreen. Unlike last year when the Texans held the first overall pick and attempted to bait teams into trading up by feigning interest in different players, this interest in Green-Beckham is legitimate.

Houston cut veteran wide receiver Andre Johnson this offseason and could definitely be looking to find a replacement to their longstanding veteran as well as a complement to 22-year-old WR DeAndre Hopkins who has already proven himself very capable for the Texans. Green-Beckham has been shooting up draft boards lately and while originally projected as a late first rounder or early second rounder it is now looking quite possible that he is taken closer to the middle of the first round. The Texans hold the 16th pick and could be targeting him there.

Others aren’t entirely convinced the Texans will be looking to take Green-Beckham. I would count myself among them. What better smokescreen than to have an analyst saying that this isn’t a smoke screen? The Texans could be looking to bait someone into trading up to 16 so that they can stockpile more picks. It would be uncharacteristic for Bill O’Brien to draft someone who has as many red flags as Green-Beckham does. Green-Beckham had numerous incidents related to possession of marijuana throughout his college career. He was dismissed from the football program at Mizzou partially due to his problems with drugs as well as an incident in which Green-Beckham supposedly forced himself into an apartment and pushed an 18-year-old woman down a flight of stairs. He was not charged but the allegations remain and his participation in the football program was ended.

Bill O’Brien is known not to take risks on low character guys. With all the red flags surrounding Green-Beckham is it really likely that the Texans draft him, especially in the first round? A 6’5″ 237lb receiver that cun a 4.45 40 is going to entice any team, but it seems to be that it’s more likely that the 49ers will draft him at 15 or that the Texans will pass on him and a team will draft him in the later first round and perhaps the Seattle Seahawks will trade up into the late first or early second to pick him if he’s still available.

Consider yourself surprised if the Texans grab him at 16.
