Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving missed the shootaround on Friday morning to have his knee checked and is questionable for Game 2

If the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to go up 2-0 in their Eastern Conference Finals series against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night, they might have to do so without the services of star guard Kyrie Irving.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Irving will be skipping the Friday morning shootaround for the Cavs to get his left knee looked at a little further. At first it was reported by Windhorst as just some simple testing, but now he believes that the team has ordered an MRI, with the fear that there could be more damage to the knee than originally suspected.

It’s been no well-kept secret throughout these playoffs that Irving has been battling left knee issues, however he’s been able to gut it out most of the way and help the Cavaliers get to this point.

The Cavaliers took Game 1 from the Hawks on Wednesday night, and in the 97-89 win, Irving played a total of 27 minutes, dropping in 10 points with six assists and three rebounds.

With Kevin Love already out, potentially losing Irving for a significant amount of time puts a damper on the hopes of the Cavs to make the NBA Finals, and it also puts added pressure on the role players such as J.R. Smith to keep coming through when they need them most.

As more information becomes available on the Friday night status of Irving, we will keep you updated.
