Giancarlo Stanton made an incredible catch to get the Marlins out of a jam in the second.

Giancarlo Stanton can be seen many nights carrying the Miami Marlins by hitting baseballs a very, very long way. On Monday evening, he showed that he can drop jaws with more than just his power at the plate.

In the second inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Marlins were already trailing 3-1 and Pittsburgh had a runner on second with two outs. Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison then got a hold of one and drilled it to deep right. Stanton was hardly fazed:

That wasn’t a lazy pop fly that the wind carried a bit; that thing was drilled and Stanton made an absolutely perfect play on it to grab it and end the inning.

Harrison almost surely would have been in scoring position had that gotten down and the runner from second would have been across the plate to put the Marlins in an even bigger hole. Instead, Stanton is the one who is getting all of the shine.

With the way Stanton swings the lumber and can apparently use the leather, it’s not hard to see why he’s regarded as an undeniable superstar in the bigs.
