Rick Carlisle was introduced at a Bruce Hornsby concert as a featured pianist and he sounded quite good.

You never know what is going to happen at  a Bruce Hornsby concert. With his jazzy style mixed in with some blue grass and folk music, he sure does keep the audience on their feet. At his most recent show in Dallas, he pulled something way out of left field for the crowd to enjoy. He played an entire song featuring the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, Rick Carlisle, on piano. No one really knew that Ricky could bang on the ebony and ivory quite like he did at the House of Blues in Dallas. But he really did put on a great show.

Here is the whole video of Carlisle himself showing his more artistic side for the crowd rather than what we are more accustomed to seeing him do on the basketball court.

Like I said, pretty impressive! I always thinks it’s cool when people have multiple talents. And it’s clear that Carlisle wasn’t just a jock growing up who locked himself in the gym. He is pretty well-rounded, which is awesome to see.

Maybe playing piano is Carlisle’s way of relaxing after a tough loss or stressful situation at work. This season he had plenty to play about with a bad first round loss in the playoffs to the Houston Rockets and constant attitude problems with Rajon Rondo. He was probably plugging away on that piano more than we would have originally thought due to the Mavericks season.

Hopefully for the sake of Mavericks fans and Carlisle’s fingers, Dallas does a little better next season. Dirk Nowitzki is reaching the tail end of his career, so if Carlisle is going to get Dallas another title he better do it sooner rather than later.
