The NBA Draft is right around the corner, and DeMarcus Cousins is in the ear of his discombobulated front office telling them who to take.

When the Sacramento Kings go on the clock at No. 6 overall in the NBA Draft later this month, they’re going to be hoping that Willie Cauley-Stein is on the board. The chances of that happening aren’t all that high, but there’s hope that the Kings front court can get someone like Willie Cauley-Stein next to DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins has been the subject of trade rumors lately — well, basically his whole career up to this point — but now that those rumors are out of the Kings’ system it’s clear they want to build around him. This isn’t a new idea, but it’s something that Cousins now seems to be getting in on.

According to ESPN’s Ryen Russillo, the Kings may seriously consider Willie Cauley-Stein at No. 6 overall in the NBA Draft this year because DeMarcus Cousins is lobbying for that move to be made.

It wouldn’t be shocking at all for the Kings to make their selection at No. 6 overall in the NBA Draft with Cousins in mind as that’s been what analysts have been clamoring for them to do all these years they’ve been selecting guards.

Nik Staustkas was the pick last year, Ben McLemore was the pick the year before and Jimmer Fredette was a lottery pick the year before. Three straight guards in there straight years with only one of those players truly making an impact — which is minimal at best.

That’s been the draft history for the Kings and none of it has helped Rudy Gay or DeMarcus Cousins grow the team into a winner. That can change with smart drafting and possibly moving Cousins away from the center position — but these are the Kings we’re talking about and expectations are not high.
