Draymond Green has made quick work of NBA free agency, agreeing on a deal to stay with the Golden State Warriors.

Draymond Green made it clear leading up to NBA free agency that he wanted to stay a member of the Golden State Warriors. As the free agency period began on Wednesday, Green staying put seemed less likely to happen as the Warriors and Green were reportedly at somewhat of an impasse in their negotiations. That has all been settled now.

According to a report from Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Warriors and Green have agreed to terms on a long-term contract:

Considering that it was just a couple of hours ago that the Warriors and Green had reportedly broken off talks, the fact that they were able to lock up the 25-year-old forward speaks to how valuable the Warriors view Green as.

Paying Green $17 million per year would have seemed ridiculous just two seasons ago as he looked to be no more than a role player for Golden State, but he proved to be one of the more important pieces for the Warriors on their way to winning the 2015 NBA Championship. Green’s versatility in terms of position and his defensive prowess allowed the Warriors to play a style that best suit their personnel and maximized what they were able to do on the court.

With Green now locked up in Golden State, it looks as if the Warriors will be bringing back their core that brought them a title this past season. It’s still early, but it’s hard not to peg the Warriors as favorites to repeat as champs now that Green is back in the fold.
