The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is one of the most popular Fourth of July events, but how many hot dogs need to be eaten to break the record?

One of the most popular Fourth of July events is the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, which is held every year on to celebrate America the way it should be. There’s no better way to say God Bless This Land than to stuff your face full of hot dogs and choke it all down with some water.

For the last eight years, Joey Chestnut has been the champion hot dog eater of the world and the Nathan’s king of the dog. Not only has he bested all those who have stood up against him, but he’s also the world record holder according to Nathan’s when it comes to eating the most hot dogs in the shortest amount of time.

Last year was the eighth of Chestnut’s consecutive victories, but it was his 2013 performance which stands as his record breaker. In that year, Chestnut ate 68 hot dogs in the allotted time, breaking his own world record.

Chestnut downed 68 hot dogs in 2012 and 2009, which was the world record until he broke it in 2013.

No one has ever reached 70 hot dogs before, and that’s a mark that Chestnut is inching towards. He’s one shy of the that record, and it’s something he very well could achieve this year at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest.
