LaMarcus Aldridge believes that people made too big a fuss about what really happened with the Lakers

Before agreeing to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, LaMarcus Aldridge took a few visits during the moratorium period, and one of them was with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now as we all remember, the reports from that meeting were anything but positive. As a matter of fact, what he heard happened in that meeting had us all in laughter, especially when he heard how much –or really, how little– Kobe Bryant participated.

Well, Aldridge is trying to set the record straight on what really went down when he met with Kobe and crew earlier this month.

In an interview with Basketball Insiders, Aldridge admitted that while things didn’t go with the Lakers the way he would have wanted them too, some of the reports were taken a little too far.

“With the Lakers, it wasn’t anything crazy,” Aldridge said. “It was just the [first] meeting didn’t go as well as I wanted it to, so I did another one.  People blew it out of proportion about things happening in the meeting. That wasn’t correct. It just didn’t go as good as I wanted it to so I had one more….”

Of course, as Aldridge said there, he did go back and meet with them once again, but the Spurs ended up being the ones to win out in the end.

Aside from Kobe not really wanting anything to do with it, another report about that infamous first Lakers meeting was that the team wasn’t really interested in talking basketball, rather they were trying to sell the free-agent big man on Los Angeles. While that works with some, Aldridge was more concerned about what would be going on on the court instead of off of it.

No wonder he chose the Spurs.
