These days, New York Mets fans are excited but frustrated at thw same time. With the complete lack of offense at Citi Field, many have turned on manager Terry Collins, who is yet to bring the team to the playoffs during his short tenure. In fairness to Collins, he had not been given much to work with.

However, even the toughest critics of Collins would agree the man is pleasant and gracious in the public eye. This notion was driven home even further with the news coming out on Wednesday that Collins reached out to a widow of a man who was a long-time Mets fan. Apparently the man passed away in the fall, and Collins decided it would be the correct move to remember him in a letter, per The Score.

This is such a touching gesture by Collins. Here he is, the manager in the middle of a heated race for the playoffs in a town ready to run him out, and he’s reaching out to a grieving widow. He could not have known this would ever go public. He simply did it because of his character.

With Noah Syndergaard, Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom, the Mets are trying to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2006. Currently, New York sits one game behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East and are three games back of the San Francisco Giants for the final wild card spot.
