Trevone Boykin will win the Heisman Trophy in 2015
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin is heading into the 2015 season with high expectations and will match them by winning the Heisman Trophy.
Remember when people were doubting that TCU would have any success after joining the Big 12 a couple of years ago? Yeah, me neither.
Oh yeah, and remember when Trevone Boykin was named starting quarterback as a freshman because Casey Pachall was in rehab, yet once he returned the job was stripped from Boykin? That wasn’t Gary Patterson’s best moment, though he quickly learned from his mistake.
Boykin has since become one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football, and he’s been dazzling fans with his nifty moves outside the pocket along with his dangerous arm.
Last season, the junior quarterback threw for 3,901 yards, 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while gathering a 61.2 percent completion rate — all career-highs. He burst onto the scene as a freshman, took a step back as a sophomore behind Pachall and re-emerged as a junior, leading the Horned Frogs to the brink of a College Football Playoff berth.
The senior quarterback hasn’t had the easiest road to stardom, seeing as he was benched in the process, but Patterson has given him a chance to prove himself. An opportunity Boykin has taken and run with over the past two years.
TCU is considered one of the top three teams in college football for the 2015 season, and the expectations for the formerly-considered underdog squad are at an all-time high. Some may be worried about how these players will handle the hype, but most are veterans and will be just fine.
Along with the high hopes for the team, as a whole, maximum results are expected from Boykin as well. So, can the senior quarterback contend for the Heisman Trophy this year?
If you want a simple response, the answer is yes.
However, I’m not a simple person and there are many reasons as to why the talented QB will be crowned this year’s Heisman winner.
First off, the offense is returning an impressive 10 starters. Yes, only one player graduated from last season and it happened to be a lineman. With most everyone returning, including Deante Gray, Aaron Green, Josh Doctson and Kolby Listenbee, the Horned Frogs have no shortage of options for Boykin.
Moreover, TCU expects a big reload on the defensive side of the ball. The Horned Frogs ranked 18th last season in total defense and will return just five starters this year. Those starters, though, are talented and the newcomers are just as solid. Don’t expect the defense to falter too much due to turnover.
With a chance to win each game, Boykin’s calm demeanor will come into play. If he can perform like he has the ability to, the Horned Frogs will have a tough time losing a game this season. Usually the Heisman winner comes from a team that is contending for a national title.
Boykin is the best quarterback in the nation and he will be rewarded in New York at the Heisman ceremony in December. Write it down.
