The Seattle Seahawks have an impenetrable defense, but have buckled to Texas A&M on the ’12th Man’ nickname.

As the Seattle Seahawks rose to prominence with the ‘Legion of Boom’, they were rallied around by their fans who made CenturyLink Field the loudest place on earth. The crowd playing a factor in Seahawks home games was so great that the birth of it’s popularity literally caused an earthquake.

But the aftershocks have ended up taking out the thing that was originally built, as the ’12th Man’ is no more — at least, in Seattle.

According to KING5 News, the Seahawks have announced they are modifying the ’12th Man’ nickname to simply be ‘Home of the 12s’, after controversy arose from good ol’ Texas A&M.

"The franchise confirmed Friday that it has changed the related signage to read “Home of the 12s.”A Seahawks spokesperson said the team made the move because “Seahawks fans have organically shifted to 12s.”"

So the story goes, the Aggies have been using the 12th Man nickname since the 90s and weren’t so hot on the Seahawks trying to piggyback on it and use it. In fact, it’s a trademarked part of the Aggies history and they wanted to make sure that was protected as much as possible.

As such, the 12th Man is no longer going to be associated with the Seahawks or their fans — not officially, anyway.

Fans will likely still refer to the crowd as the 12th Man, but the official term that will now be embraced is the 12s, which is still cool but reeks of a double down.

Still, the Seahawks are void of nicknames, as they have one much cooler and less generic than ‘The 12th Man’ in the ‘Legion of Boom’, which will likely be leaned on more so than ever in wake of the 12th Man defeat.
