Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins are like one of those sickeningly dysfunctional couples who post their stuff all over Facebook. You know the progression. They go from insanely in love (literally insanely) to insanely out of love.

For Griffin and the Redskins, the doomed love affair started with the 2012 draft when Griffin gushed about the unconditional love his new team had provided him with, saying via The Washington Post, “A team finally fell in love with me. They want me for who I am, and I can’t wait to go play with them.” How sweet.

Except it isn’t. At all. Now, an astoundingly dysfunctional breakup is unfolding before the entire NFL fanbase with head coach Jay Gruden aggressively and passive aggressively hating on Griffin, and Griffin appearing more and more detached and disconnected from the situation. Just last week he reminded us via The Washington Post, “I just work here.”

It appears that soon Griffin might not be working there any more. The happy couple who once posted love-bird selfies all over town and gushed about how they will live happily ever after because they are just so lucky and blessed and don’t know what they did to deserve it, are about to call it quits, according to unnamed upper-level sources within the Redskins (dis)organization. Not surprising, there is infighting about this possibility, though the sad reality is that Griffin has not been the same since he tore his ACL and the team has not done a good job coming up with a plan to leverage his existing skills.

While his team affiliation is up in the air, his status as starter is not: He will not be starting in the Redskins season opener, and it is likely his days as a starter– with this team at least– are through.

Let’s take a look at five teams that could be a good decent fit for Griffin.
