Running down some of the front page news that you may have missed on this fine Sunday morning.

Working on Sundays isn’t the worst thing in the word. My wife won’t like that statement, and it kinda flies in the face of any normal job or conventional plans of people who have real weekends, but Sundays aren’t that bad.

When I worked for Home Depot, Sundays were the one day you could guarantee that people would be a little nicer. Same when in the service industry. Tips weren’t any better, that’s for sure, but people moved a little slower and were less uppity.

Friday nights suck. Anytime on Saturday is absolutely wretched. And Mondays and Wednesdays are usually enough to make you want to reconsider this life and become a Buddhist monk.

If your boss ever tries to dump a Sunday shift on you, try and milk a couple extra pennies from him/her – it’s usually a fairly harmless day that goes by rather quickly.

On to the headlines.

Man dies at Turner Field

Story: A man fell to his death at Turner Field on Saturday night. The individual was reportedly on the top deck, fell over the railing, hit another railing and then made contact with the pavement. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, and later pronounced dead.

Cold Take: Weird to say, but it’s kind of shocking that this doesn’t happen more often. MLB games are a haven for people who like to get blackout drunk and hang out. It’s a tragedy not only for the man’s family, but for anyone near the landing spot. Can you imagine taking your kid to his/her first ballgame and sitting right next to the landing zone? Now that’s your kid’s first memory of a baseball game. Tragic stuff all around.

In other news, there are way too many Yankees fans in the above picture. If you’re a Braves fan above the age of 28 and the 1996 World Series doesn’t induce nausea, then you probably aren’t really a Braves fan. Hopefully those Yanks fans got a friendly ribbing before New York dealt Atlanta its ninth loss in 10 games.

Chelsea continues to slide

Story: Chelsea lost a home match, 2-1, to Crystal Palace on Saturday. It was only the Blues’ second EPL loss at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho, as well as Crystal Palace’s first victory at the Bridge since 1982.

Cold Take: It’s surely a long season, but the bottom is falling right out from under Chelsea right now. They’re 1-1-2, have only four points and are tied for the league’s second-worst goal differential (-3). If some part of you doesn’t want to see the Blues go from champ to being relegated, then you’re either a fan of Chelsea or far less sadistic than me. Also, how much sadder does a luchador feel than a normal person when his team loses? Probably like 1,000%. Does he leave the mask on when walking home?

American Pharoah loses

Story: American Pharoah lost for the first time in 2015 while racing at the Travers in Saratoga, New York.

Cold Take: Talk about a sucker punch. Betting American Pharoah was like going with Usain Bolt in a race – automatic. Tim Layden over at SI wrote an eloquent eulogy for Pharoah’s win streak, which is a must-read for any lover of sports or beautiful prose. As for this piece … not so much.

After taking the Triple Crown, does Pharoah even care anymore? Should he? Saratoga is beautiful and historic, but dude just pulled history out of thin air. This is the classic mentality of punching the clock for a paycheck and waiting out the week. It’s not that stunning, considering the big stuff was out of the way. Pharoah doesn’t roll out of bed for anything less than a Triple Crown. Have a nice time playing stud in in retirement, big guy.

Randall Cobb skirts major injury

Story: Randall Cobb went down with a shoulder injury on the team’s third play from scrimmage last night and didn’t return to the game. He initially feared it was a broken collarbone, but x-rays proved otherwise.

Cold Take: The Packers should probably just pull any player worth a hoot for the rest of the preseason. It’s not even September and Aaron Rodgers was nearly staring down the scope of playing the seasons without his top two weapons. In other news: Davante Adams’ fantasy football stock is currently soaring. He went for $14 in my auction draft yesterday, which now looks like a monster steal.

Sam Bradford throws a perfect game

Story: Sam Bradford went 10-for-10 for 121 yards and three touchdowns in the Eagles’ preseason game on Saturday.

Cold Take: This is probably the most intriguing storyline of the entire NFL season. So many times college coaches fail in the NFL, with the excuse being they didn’t have enough time to bring in their personnel and develop the roster. Not Chip Kelly. The Eagles have handed everything over to ol’ Chipper, and he’s turned the franchise into a chop shop. Will Bradford work out? How will Tebow fare? What about Murray? The Eagles are like watching Man on a Wire : it’s a precious line between success and night terrors, and there’s this little piece in everyone that wonders what the contingency plan will be if/when things go off the rails.
