CFL’s Argonauts get rights to WR Justin Blackmon
Wide receiver Justin Blackmon could be headed up north to the CFL
Justin Blackmon was a star coming out of Oklahoma State to the NFL. After winning the Biletnikoff Award twice with the Cowboys, he was selected fifth-overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He continued to look promising as a rookie, hauling in 64 catches for 865 yards and five touchdowns in his first NFL season. However, things have gone off the rails since then.
Blackmon is currently indefinitely suspended by the NFL after being suspended twice for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and then failing more drug tests. Since coming into the league, the wide receiver has two DUIs and has been charged with marijuana possession.
It seems as if he might have new life in football, though it won’t be in the NFL. On Monday evening, the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts acquired the rights to Blackmon, per Sportsnet.
Blackmon won’t be immediately joining the Argonauts as CFL rule prohibits players from joining the league until their suspension is over or rescinded.
Who knows if this amounts to anything in the end and if he ever steps foot in the CFL or onto a football field ever again. Regardless, this is the opening of another door for a tremendous talent who, hopefully, can get back on the right track.
