The MichiganOhio State rivalry goes way back. Over the past few decades, we have seen some of the fiercest battles between two of college football’s best programs and it’s been a pleasure to watch these schools go head-to-head each college football season.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer took over the program three years ago and has been dominating ever since. Meyer has led the Buckeyes to an unbeaten season, a trip to the Big Ten title game and a national championship in three consecutive seasons, respectively.

  • As head coach of the Buckeyes, Meyer has lost just three games and none of which have been against hated rival Michigan — and he would like to keep it that way.

With the hiring of Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor, people have been talking about how the rivalry between the Buckeyes and Wolverines will be renewed — which is refreshing news for Michigan fans as they have witnessed their team get ransacked by the Buckeyes over the past few years.

Michigan and Ohio State will be atop the Big Ten for the foreseeable future, right? Well, Michigan State would love for you to think that because they’ll sneak up like a snake in the grass and record 10-plus wins every season and make no big deal about it.

So there are a handful of teams contending for the conference title each year, but Coach Meyer only cares about one of them.

Meyer teaches a coaching class at Ohio State — go figure — and he has a strict ‘no blue’ policy. What this means is that he does not allow his students to wear blue, of any shade, to class without getting punished.

His punishment for the two brave souls who tried to get away with wearing that awful color in class? Pushups.

This just goes to show for his students in the future that wearing blue in Professor Meyer’s class is a big-time no-no.

Why would he make these poor kids sweat it out in front of the class? Because he can. And because That Team Up North is something that he loathes.

It’s going to be an exciting future for the Big Ten watching Meyer and Harbaugh go head to head, but don’t sleep on Mark Dantonio, Jerry Kill or James Franklin to swoop in and win some conference crowns while those two are worried about each other.

We all learned something valuable today: don’t mess with Professor Meyer.
