The baseball world lost a titan and a legend with the passing of Yogi Berra, and he was honored before the Yankees-Blue Jays game on Wednesday.
The passing of baseball icon and New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra. The baseball legend died at the age of 90 on Tuesday and the outpouring of support and the flood of memories that has been experienced in the wake of his passing has been tremendous. Fans of all ages and from all corners of baseball have come out to give their thoughts about one of the most recognizable and lovable characters in baseball history, and that extended right up to a tribute before Wednesday night’s Yankees game in Toronto.
In a truly classy move, the Blue Jays took a fair amount of time before the game to honor Berra — who was more than just a legend of their opponent, as he was a character all fans loved.
The tribute was pretty standard, but it was still touching to see.
Berra wasn’t just a goofy Grandpa-like character, he was a stellar ballplayer who leaves behind a career that will rarely be touched — if ever. He was a 10-time World Series champion and was a part of not just Yankees lore but is a figurehead in the history of baseball, something that will never change and is only solidified with his passing.
