The Minnesota Vikings improved to 2-1 on the young 2015 National Football League season, beating the San Diego Chargers, 31-14, at TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Minnesota was able to romp against San Diego behind four sacks and a defensive touchdown by linebacker Chad Greenway, who picked off Philip Rivers and ran 91 yards for a touchdowns.

Adrian Peterson was nothing short of terrific with two touchdowns on 20 carries, showcasing his elite blend of size and speed. Peterson did not get a ton of help from Teddy Bridgewater, although it was not needed. Bridgewater finished with 121 yards and an interception.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Adrian Peterson

Peterson is officially back after missing the final 15 games of the 2014 NFL season with a suspension. Peterson ran all over the Chargers on Sunday afternoon, gaining 126 yards on 20 carries along with two touchdowns. While Teddy Bridgewater is still trying to find his bearings with middling receivers and a bad offensive line, Peterson is carrying the load.

2. Keenan Allen

Allen is having a Pro Bowl season for the Chargers. With Antonio Gates out for the first four weeks of the season due to a suspension, Allen has stepped up. After recorded 15 receptions in Week 1, the third-year receiver caught 12 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns versus the Vikings in defeat.

3. Everson Griffen

Griffen spearheaded the Vikings pass-rush, which was all over the Chargers from the start of the game. In fact, head coach Mike McCoy actually pulled Rivers in the fourth quarter, realizing that he should preserve his quarterback’s health. Rivers was sacked four times and hit on many other occasions.

Odds

Minnesota was favored by two points and clearly covered the spread against San Diego.

Next week

The Vikings will visit the Denver Broncos on Sunday while the Chargers play host to the Cleveland Browns.
