The Los Angeles Angels have announced the hire of their new general manager.

During the summer, the Los Angeles Angels went through a bizarre controversy between manager Mike Scioscia and (now former) general manager Jerry DiPoto. The two men had a lot of trouble getting along with each other, leading to DiPoto clearing out his office and resigning from his position on July 1.

Then, just last week, DiPoto became the GM of AL West rival Seattle Mariners. They fired Jack Zduriencik from the position in August.

Well, it seems that the Angels have named their new GM. They have reportedly hired New York Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler to DiPoto’s former role, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post would confirm this shortly after.

Eppler was actually up for the role of Angels GM back in 2011 before they decided to go with DiPoto. The UConn alum has been with the Yankees since 2004 and worked his way up from scout to assisting GM Brian Cashman in the baseball operations.

Now Eppler gets the task of handling a team that barely missed out on the playoffs earlier today. He will have to face questions of what to do at second base, third base, the corner outfield spots and possibly finding a starting pitcher. He’ll get this offseason to prove his worth to the franchise.
