The Detroit Lions were looking to rebound from a tough loss last week with a home win over the Arizona Cardinals, but that wasn’t the case.

17. 50. 42. 32. Final

Looking for absolutely anything to grasp on to as a sign of a change in confidence, the Detroit Lions headed into Sunday’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals with hopes of using home-field advantage as a start of a winning streak.

That wasn’t the case as even though Detroit raced out to a 7-0 lead, the Cardinals asserted their dominance and scored five straight touchdowns, ultimately leading to the benching of Matthew Stafford and the demise of the Lions’ comeback hopes.

Detroit turned the ball over five times on the day and that can be attributed to stupid mistakes as well as solid defense by Arizona.

Carson Palmer was red-hot on the day, throwing just as many incomplete passes as he did touchdowns. He was 11-of-14 on the day for 161 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers on the day.

Chris Johnson ran for over 103 yards on 11 carries while Andre Ellington returned in the big way with a late 63-yard touchdown run to put the cherry on top.

Three Stars

Carson Palmer was solid, completing 11-of-14 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers. He is now up to 13 touchdowns through his first five games.

Chris Johnson was solid, racking up 103 yards on 11 carries. He looked the the CJ2K of old on the day.

Andre Ellington had a nice comeback game, scoring on a 63-yard touchdown run.

Highlights

Odds

The Cardinals were four-point favorites in this one, so it didn’t take long for Arizona to cover the spread and never look back. The over/under was 45, and you can thank the Cardinals for single-handedly hitting the over.

Next Week

The Lions are heading into a winnable matchup against the Chicago Bears at home next weekend, putting their 0-5 record to the test. Detroit is looking to avoid the vaunted 0-6 start to the year with no end in sight.

Arizona is now 4-1 and will get the Pittsburgh Steelers minus Ben Roethlisberger next Sunday afternoon. It seems as though it will be a tougher matchup than anticipated, though, as the Cardinals will be the away team.
