Harry Kane has only scored 1 Premier League goal this season, yet he is very confident that Tottenham Hotspur can still rely on him to score.

Harry Kane has only scored one Premier League goal this year in eight appearances. He has also netted twice for England but that does not help Tottenham too much. Kane was of the belief that he had another goal against Lithuania but it was later, and correctly, ruled as an own goal.

Kane was not amused.

“It’s a scandal! I was unlucky not to score officially. I got a few shots off and was quite pleased with the way I played. I’ve just got to keep going at it, keep working hard and the goals will come,” he said via Sky Sports.

Harry Kane burst onto the scene last year as one of the premier young talents in England. As a 21 year old, he netted 31 times in 51 appearances. That is not something 21-year-olds usually do. It was so convincing that Kane received an England call-up despite the presence of Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturidge and Raheem Sterling at the same position.

England was swept up by the Harry Kane bonanza, just like Tottenham.

Since then, it has not been smooth sailing. The young Englishman is having a tough go of this season, as is Tottenham Hotspur. It is no coincidence that the two are struggling together. Tottenham put all of their eggs in Harry Kane’s basket and for an entire year, it looked like a solid bet. But as is the case with a striker along the lines of Harry Kane, other options are needed.

Currently, Tottenham Hotspur only have Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min listed as forwards, with Erik Lamela potentially filling the spot as well. That is no sort of striking force that can lead a team to European competition. Harry Kane was a fantastic striker last year and it makes sense that Tottenham would want to build around him, but this is the side affect.

Tottenham sit eighth in a Premier League table that has been incredibly open. Their 11 goals leave a lot to be desired, but with Harry Kane only netting one of those, 11 goals actually seems pretty solid. If Harry Kane really can come around than this Tottenham team has a lot to be excited about and reason to believe.

But with Harry Kane being a striker that is primed on work ethic and intense effort, he cannot do it all by himself. The more he tries to do it all himself, the tougher it will become. He has indicated that all he has to do is keep trying and the goals will come. That is a great mindset to have but whether he actually believes it or not is up for debate.

At 22 years of age, the pressure may be getting to Harry Kane. If Tottenham miss out on another year or two of Champions League football while they cultivate a potentially legendary striker, they can be forgiven. But to be relied upon so heavily now gives Kane very little wiggle room if Tottenham truly wish to be competitive.
