Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward continues to wear eye black honoring father despite NFL fine.

Last week Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward honored his late father by writing “Ironhead” on his eye black. Heyward’s father, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, died in 2006 of bone cancer.

This is a violation of the NFL’s uniform policy and he was fined $5,787 dollars for the gesture, a fine that many saw as ridiculous and another example of how tone-deaf the NFL is.

It didn’t scare Heyward from honoring his father again in Week 6.

Seriously, the NFL has players donning pink equipment and have gone all out making anything they can pink to honor breast cancer awareness. Then they fine a player for honoring his father, a former running back, who died of cancer.

Good for Heyward continuing to stick it to the NFL and not backing down, the media and fans are certainly behind him and the longer it goes on, or if the fine increases, the more scrutiny and bad PR the NFL will bring onto themselves.

It’d be nice to see more players support Heyward.
