The Patriots ran away in the second half to put away the Colts on Sunday Night Football

Final. 27. 46. 34. 47

There was unquestionably a great deal of hype surrounding the New England Patriots vs. Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football in Week 6 action, but many analysts seemed to detract from that hype. The general consensus seemed to be that this game would be Tom Brady and the Patriots throttling Andrew Luck’s Colts for four quarters in Lucas Oil Stadium. However, the first half looked much different than that projection as a great Donte Moncrief touchdown catch and a Mike Adams pick-six left the Colts up by a point at halftime. Bill Belichick wasn’t about to let that stand, though.

The Patriots came out firing in the second half and pulled away in a big way. Brady finally found Rob Gronkowski in the third quarter with a touchdown and then found LeGarrette Blount for another in the fourth quarter. New England’s defense was also stifling down the stretch, not allowing the Colts any real chance at scoring until garbage time. Indianapolis didn’t do themselves any favors either, including executing possibly the worst play in the history of football on a fake punt that resulted in a turnover on downs. With everything playing out like that in the second half, the Patriots were able to snatch the narrative and run with it to stay undefeated for 2015.

Three stars

Tom Brady may have thrown his first interception of the season in this game, but he more than made up for it by throwing for 311 yards and three touchdown passes in the dominant victory.

LeGarrette Blount is normally known as the closer for the Pats, but was huge for his team throughout. He managed 95 yards and a touchdown on the ground and added an 11-yard touchdown catch for good measure.

Danny Amendola came out of nowhere in this game to have a big night, particularly in the screen-passing game. He finished with a team-high seven catches and 105 yards receiving.

Highlights

Odds

The line for this game ranged from -8.5 to -10.5 for the Patriots, but they were unable to cover no matter where it was thanks to Luck’s late touchdown. However, the 55-point over/under was ultimately a blip on the radar in this high-scoring affair.

Next week

Off of a short week, the Patriots will be back in Gillette Stadium next week to take on a feisty and stout New York Jets team.

The Colts will be at home again next week, looking to get some momentum going again against the New Orleans Saints.
