D.J. Augustin took roughly 100 steps on this transition layup and the refs didn’t call anything

D.J. Augustin is going to play a big role for the Oklahoma City Thunder coming off of the bench this season. The veteran point guard has re-established himself in the NBA over the past few seasons and now he’s playing a pivotal role in the Thunder attack as the primary backup in the backcourt for Russell Westbrook. However, he may want to cut back on the blatant travelling if that’s the case.

As the Thunder were taking on the Houston Rockets on Monday night, Augustin was leading a fast break when he decided he was taking it to the rack. The only problem is that he picked up his dribble outside of the three-point line and ran with the ball palmed in his hand all the way to the rim for a layup:

Augustin pretty clearly takes seven or more steps after picking up his dribble, which is also pretty clearly far more than a player is allowed to take. However, the referee who was running right alongside Augustin on that play didn’t blow his whistle. There was no call for travelling on the play and the basket counted. I’m as confused as you are.

There are always going to be jokes about travelling never being called in the NBA, but this is a next-level no-call when it comes to travelling. Augustin takes this ball to the hole like he’s Todd Freaking Gurley and then lays it up.

Tighten up out there, officiating.
