LeBron James gave the Sixers credit before facing off against them Monday, in a way predicting their rebuild would eventually pay off.

Fans trusting “the process” of tanking that general manager Sam Hinkie has pushed and pushed for the past few years is no big deal. But a player that’s arguably the world’s best athlete trusting it? That’s new.

Thats just what one of LeBron’s quotes implied when speaking to PhillyVoice.com.

"Everyone wants instant oatmeal, but it’s always a process. You got to put the time in, you got to build things from the ground up, and if they’re serious about making a change, then it’ll happen. Hopefully it’ll happen when I’m done, though."

There’s a few things happening with this quote. First off, a really bad metaphor with the oatmeal. Secondly, James is really giving credit to this process, and really thinks it might be credible, which is worth noting. And thirdly, he’s showing a tiny ounce of fear when he says he hopes they figure it out when he’s done.

James could very well be right. With a rookie that’s already playing well in Jahlil Okafor, and several stashed cash and draft picks, the Sixers are looking up, just in a few years, not right now. Not to mention that Nerlens Noel alongside Okafor could be one of the most terryfying front courts in a very long time.

Sam Hinkie has been criticized for his unconventional ways, and recently the entire management squad has been criticized for not having a basketball background. There’s no doubt that the Sixers are not doing things like everyone else, but they’re hoping it pays off in a few years.

LeBron is trusting the process. Sixers fans should, too.
