The Chiefs demolished the Chargers in their own house, rolling to a 33-3 win.

The Kansas City Chiefs took apart the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon at Qualcomm Stadium, dominating from start to finish in a 33-3 win. The Chiefs gained 385 yards and allowed only 201 while sacking Philip Rivers three times and forcing two turnovers.

Rivers came into the league second in passing, but was held to 178 yards on 19-of-30 passing. Rivers was hurt buy a couple of key drops, but was mostly under siege from a pass rush that features Tamba Hali and Justin Houston. It was an impressive day for Kansas City’s defense, which limited San Diego to a mere field goal.

Highlights

Three Stars

1. Spencer Ware

Ware came into the game in the second half and had a huge impact. Filling in for the injured Charcandrick West, Ware carried 11 times for 96 yards and two tocuhdowns, helping Kansas City put the game away. Ware did not start the season on the active roster but made his way up the depth chart following an injury to Jamaal Charles.

2. Alex Smith

Smith was his typically careful self. The game manager threw for 253 yards, completing 20-of-25 throws without a touchdown or interception. Smith was terrific in making plays with his legs throughout the afternoon, running seven times for 33 yards.

3. Justin Houston/Tamba Hali

Hali was up to his old tricks, notching two sacks and forcing a holding penalty on King Dunlap early in the third quarter. Houston was also enjoying a party in the backfield, but his biggest play came in the third quarter when he intercepted a throw and ran it in for a touchdown.

Odds

Kansas City was favored by three points and easily covered the spread over San Diego.
