Michael Geiger drilled the kick and then stuck the landing on his interview.

It was the kick heard ’round college football. Ohio State played middling ball for 60 minutes. Michigan State hung around and hung around and hung around. And then, with three seconds remaining on the clock, Geiger stepped up, took a practice kick thanks to Urban Meyer’s timeout and then put the biscuit through the pipes.

Afterword, the kicker went full Pete Townshend with his celebration …

… and then nailed his postgame interview (nsfw earmuffs for the kiddos out there).

Stepping back to regroup on everything, what a wild turn of events Saturday was. Michigan State entered the game without Connor Cook, who was a late scratch due to a shoulder injury. Then, on the back of a stout defense, the Spartans held tight with the defending champions. Geiger had missed a 43-yard field goal attempt earlier in the game, yet yoked the game-winner.

Ohio State’s 23-game win streak: snapped.

Urban Meyer’s unblemished record in Big Ten regular season games: broken.

The Buckeyes’ national championship hopes: severely crippled.

As for Michigan State, the Spartans are now back in the thick of the national championship picture. What a crazy season for Sparty: the wild finish against Michigan, the controversial loss to Nebraska, and now Geiger’s golden boot.
