Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Auburn Tigers

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers will meet for the always-heated Iron Bowl on Saturday. Even with Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide sitting at the No. 2 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings, you can never rule anything out when it comes to the Iron Bowl—something that’s been proven time and again over the history of the rivalry.

Derrick Henry has continued mowing over opponents in the rushing game while Jake Coker has firmly established himself as a consistent, reliable snap-taker for Alabama as they season has worn on. Things are much less stable for the Tigers, who don’t know if it will be Jeremy Johnson or Sean White starting at quarterback against the Crimson Tide for the Iron Bowl.

Keys to Victory

Running the ball with Derrick Henry is obviously going to be the bread and butter of Alabama in this game, just like it has been for them all season. However, the key to victory for Alabama is for their pass-rush to remain dominant. As the Tide have been leaving a path of destruction in the SEC as of late, their ability to get after opposing quarterbacks and bust up plays before they have time to develop has been unmatched in college football. Auburn’s offense isn’t great to begin with, but Alabama can eliminate any chance of something fluky happening by disrupting the Tiger offense consistently.

For those Auburn Tigers, their two biggest keys are going to be on the offensive end as they try and decipher the stout Bama defense. For one, whoever starts at quarterback—be it Sean White or Jeremy Johnson—needs to limit his turnovers and needs to make smart decisions within the construct of the offense. More importantly, the Tigers have to find a way to get Jovon Robinson and Peyton Barber running room. That’s easier said than done against this Crimson Tide defense, but the Auburn running backs’ success this season has gone hand-in-hand with the Tigers’ success.

Prediction

Anything can happen in the Iron Bowl, but this isn’t the year where I think something shocking is going down. I expect Alabama to come into this road rivalry game and take care of business emphatically.
