J.R. Smith mocked Cam Newton’s Superman celebration with the Panthers quarterback in attendance

J.R. Smith came up big for the Cleveland Cavaliers in their matchup on Friday night on the road against the Charlotte Hornets. The guard only managed 11 points on the night, but he came up with timely buckets in the fourth quarter. Moreover, he knocked down two key free throws with less than a minute left. It was after the second made foul shot that Smith stole the spotlight, though.

With Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in attendance to watch another Charlotte team in action, Smith had been fully aware of Cam’s presence as he dabbed earlier in the game. After the second made free throw to all but clinch a Cavs win, though, Smith took it to another level as he stepped back off the line and performed Newton’s signature Superman celebration:

Oh, that’s just cold-blooded, Earl.

Given the thoughtless things that Smith has a tendency to do, though, it’s refreshing that he actually celebrated after knocking down a meaningful free throw. Honestly, would anyone have put it past him to do this after a free throw in the first quarter? That’s what I thought.

This could be the birth of absolute greatness between two of the greatest trolls in professional sports, though. Cam almost has to respond by pulling out this J.R. Smith classic the next time that he finds his way into the end zone:

We can all look forward to that in Week 13 of the NFL season.
