No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners  vs. No. 11 Oklahoma State Cowboys

It’s going to be Bedlam in Stillwater on Saturday when the Oklahoma Sooners take on their in-state rival, the Oklahoma State Cowboys. For both teams, the stakes are as high as they can be, as both teams are top ranked programs. The Oklahoma Sooners showed up very high in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings and everyone has been talking about whether or not they belong.

After losing last week, Oklahoma State’s playoff hopes are done, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get to a top bowl game with a big win against their rival on Saturday. Both teams know what they are playing for this week, as everything is all on the line.

Keys to Victory

After passing concussion protocol last week, Baker Mayfield will look to strengthen his Heisman bid this week. All season long, Mayfield has been the key to the Sooners’ season. If they’re going to pull off the big win on the road this Saturday, Mayfield is going to need to be dynamic with his legs along with his arm.

Not only will Mayfield need to be great this week against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, so will running back Samaje Perine. Oklahoma State struggles against the run, and the Sooners can run the ball very well. If the Sooners can pound the ball on the ground, then it will make Mayfield’s job easier at quarterback.

For Oklahoma State, they have to stop the running game this week. They haven’t been good on the ground all season, and last year, they got burned on the ground, when they held on for a close win against the Sooners. This week, it’s time stand up and lock down on Joe Mixon, Samaje Perine and anyone else that will put the ball on the ground.

While the defense needs to do their job, so will quarterback Mason Rudolph. He’s shown this season just how dynamic he can be at quarterback, and on Saturday, he will have to put his best stuff on display. Oklahoma is great at forcing turnovers, so Rudolph will have to protect the football.

Prediction

All week, Oklahoma has had to listen to people say why they don’t deserve to be in the College Football Playoff. This Saturday, they have a chance to have their shining moment to prove to everyone why they do belong in the final four teams to compete for a championship.

Bedlam is never easy, and they are going to have to be firing on all cylinders to take down the Cowboys. This is where Baker Mayfield makes his Heisman statement. Not only is he going to find his play-makers, but he’s also going to take it upon himself to score.

Look for Mayfield to be the catalyst to the Sooners’ offense and carry them in a big, but tough win on the road at Stillwater. His big plays will be set up by his great running backs and his offensive line will allow him to make the plays necessary to win.

The Sooners will cement their spot as a playoff team.

Final Score: Oklahoma 21, Oklahoma State 19
