Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger self-reported concussion symptoms after being tackled in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did something that many players refuse to do during Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

After a short rushing gain, Roethlisberger checked himself out of Sunday’s game due to concussion symptoms that he was feeling. Many players are hesitant to enter the NFL’s concussion protocols because of the potential to miss significant time. However, NFL.com’s Ian Rapport reports that Roethlisberger may not have a concussion after all.

Roethlisberger set the record for the most passing yards thrown on a Seattle defense in the history of their franchise with 456 passing yards. However, he threw just one touchdown and two interceptions in the game which eventually may have lead to the Seattle victory.

Roethlisberger could potentially catch heat if he does not have a concussion, as the Steelers theoretically had a chance to win the game when Landry Jones was subbed in relief of Roethlisberger. The team was down by nine points with less than two minutes to go. Roethlisberger has been oft-injured this season, suffering a foot sprain against the Raiders and a sprained MCL against the Rams that sidelined him for four games.

However, it is admirable that Roethlisberger decided to check himself in to the concussion protocol. Not only did he have his own personal health in mind, but he had the best interest of the team in mind as well. If he re-entered the game, he likely could have made matters worse.
